As many of you already know this last Friday was the day of Maile's adenoid removal surgery. We got there around 5.30 AM and was surprised at how incredibly well behaved she was for being so early in the morning. We were greeted by one of the nurses and she asked me to change Maile into a surgical gown. Seeing that Maile was holding her little Cinderella doll ( who happens to wear a blue dress) she asked her if she would like her "ball gown" to be blue as well. Of course she had to have matching blue "slippers" after that... I have to say I was very surprised to see how well she was treating Maile and making sure she was as comfortable as possible in such an environment.
From there she took us in the back and while waiting for the doctor and the anesthesiologist, she brought a little mask and showed Maile how she was gonna breath into it and how she was gonna take a little nap and then explained to her that mommy will be right there when she wakes up.
An hour later she was taken back into the OR while I remained waiting outside. The surgery only lasted about 20 minutes. Dr Hobgood ( our ENT) came out saying that Maile had done great during the surgery despite the fact that her adenoids were the largest he'd seen that year. ( his words not mine)
Immediately after that, the nurse brought me back into the recovery room and I was able to watch Maile sleep for about an hour...despite all the loud cries of the many children that had similar surgeries to hers that morning.
Surprisingly enough, Maile woke up in great spirits again and when the nurse asked her if she wanted some water or juice...or maybe a pink popsicle, she proceeded to say.."maybe a blue one..just like my dress". My sweet girl...she just melted my heart that morning. I was so proud to see how well she did, how brave she was for being only 3 years old.
We were able to go home very soon after and she was able to get lots of sleep. She is now on antibiotics to prevent a possible infection and Tylenol/Motrin for pain every 3 hours. I made the mistake of not giving her any pain medicine yesterday and had no idea the kind of pain she was in. She was acting quite alright most of day, however last night we ended up in Urgent Care. Her face was very red ( almost like she was having an allergic reaction) and she was very very lethargic and not responding to us calling her. We were told at the hospital that she needs to be kept medicated every 3 hrs for pain and that the redness in her face was nothing to worry about, that she was only feeling the after effects of the surgery.
Thank you to everyone who prayed with us for our little girl. She is stable right now and we're hoping that very soon she will be back to her normal self. This has been her 2nd surgery in less than a year ( she also had ear tubes placed in, in August of last year).

Praise God! I am so glad her surgery went well! I hope she has recovered quickly and is back to being Maile! Please hug your beautiful, strong, sweet princess for me!
